GT Pond Round 3 !

This is my 3rd trip at Edward's GT pond.. heard that there is a new batch of GT which came... my friend book a slot.. and for some reason I was back in Singapore just in time to join them. How lucky!

Reached there early so started to prepare our tackles for the WAR!

Errr..... not with the Koi la!

Time for some warm up casting!

Anthony saw some surface action and cast it straight for our first strike at the GTs !! Pump pump pump !!!

First one burst.... omg first try and its MAN 0 - 1 GT. Nevermind try again ! And the line bursting event started.... everyone started bursting ! Omg that was hell... the score goes down to 0-8 before we landed out first GT.

And the sick thing is it was landed by our good friend Botak setup... Xzoga jigging rod with 10lb line Zzzzz.... 20lb burst, 30lb burst, 40lb burst !!! How the hell our friend land a GT with 10lb line !!

The score is 1-8 Yahooo.... the humans are fighting back hard...

Another GT landed and its by botak's 2nd setup... pengz he have all the luck that day...

And the last fish landed for the day ! A Black GT.. took 3 of us to land this one. Giving Anthony's majorcraft offblow a good workout.

Ponggol Saltwater Fishing Pay Pond

Located near punggol end jetty.

The owner is a the former pond owner of Yishun salt water pay pond. Or some people call this place Auntie pond.

Cool place with 2 ponds and a large free carpark. The current pond outside is still under repair. Only the pond further inside is open for fishing from 9am to 9pm.

The pond have lots of different types of fishes eg. Barramundi aka KBL, Mangrove Jack, Grouper, ACK, AK, etc.

You can buy live prawns as bait from the pond. Air pump, Landing net and keep net are provided by the pond.

My tackle Shimano Bassterra 5.0 Ft paired with Twinpower 1000.

End of the day only caught 1 Ang Kuey which I just release it back into the pond. The spot is near the fish release net area. On the day I when it was a friday and only 3 people fishing during that early morning period so the owner didnt release any fish but still all of us manage to land some fishes... for me I had a biggie that when right under the net... one way train till my land burst. Tried that spot for 3 times all 3 times the fish when down and under the net... next time I will change to a thicker main line to play at that tight spot.

Will try this pond again when I go back to Singapore next time.

Trip to Bangkok May 2009

Taking AirAsia's Flight from LCCT KL to BKK early friday morning. Super shag to be waking up 6am in the morning to travel 40km+ from my house in Ara Damansara to LCCT. The flight in 8.30am but we have to check in 1 hour before flight. Saw a poor chap in front of us during the check-in that he is rejected from his flight because he check-in 20mins before flight.. Sad case.. flight ticket kanna makan.

8.30am Sharp aircraft took off Air Asia's A320 took off for a 2hrs+ flight to BKK with my wife and my good friend Alson.. The Lim Family going for holidays again..

Reached the Bangkok airport... The seats are hell small !!!! Budget flight got budget comfort I guess.

First thing when I checked into my hotel room. Zzzzz monster why you so early find me liao?

But of cos my fav. MK restaurtan is waiting for me... I cant stop myself even when I am dead sleepy to go catch some food. Yummy !!

Dinner was at Big C Food Court !! Super cheap Thai Food.... sick thing is its Cheaper and Cleaner then the street side hawker stalls.

At night when to buy some things for my son Whiskey and guess what I saw? A rainbow dog in the pet shop...

2nd day in BKK and off we went for our fishing trip.

Now Boon Ma pond also got sell tackles.

We when to a place the guide Ah Ton told us that no one else when before.... well guess we are the "lucky" ones.

First fish up was 12lb

Serdang Saltwater Fishing Park

This is a salt water fishing pond located near Serdang (Seri Kembangan) town which is not far away from Kuala Lumpur. After reading Jan 09 Rod and Line introduction of this pond. Finally find the time to go try this place out.

Charges is RM 33 for 3 hours.

Business hours
Sunday - Thursday : 8am - 3am
Friday - Saturday : 24hours

House rules are no lure and live bait fish are allow in this pond.

Pond is located behind the new Serdang Height terrace houses ( need to go through Jalan Indan 1/11 of Taman Universiti Indah )

The operator here will give you a tag to record your time in and time out.

Live prawns are sold there for RM1 a piece. They will give you a container like this to put your prawns.

The owner have some recycle value added to this old bottle yah?

There are seats all over the pond for everyone to seat.

But its rather far for you to do your fishing on the, ended up I sat on the steps.

About 4-5 anglers there only. And after 3 hrs of fishing Zero ! Not a single hook up after 3hrs for everyone.

The United States is now in dire straits. Many companies, banks are all falling apart, in economics terms. Many individuals who used to live in luxury and credit, are now having no money to pay bills.

This Christmas was a shitty one for many hard working Americans. Shopping spree was something reserved for the fortunate ones. For the first time I see an empty shopping centre, day after day, from Natick to Rode Island. The crisis is hitting New England hard at a very obvious sign. Many are saying Singapore is still not affected, yet. But it will hit very hard after Chinese New Year. Usually, American will cut job when they cannot see anything beyond 3-6 months. Singapore management, typically, would try to delay and delay and then when it is no longer tolerable, everyone would have to go jump off the building.

Anyway, our good government would give out red packets for everyone before New Year. You can either save it, or use it for some fishing fix.

I did not spend any money for Christmas, just waiting for post Christmas price crash. Indeed the retailer slashed prices after the Christmas! I wanted to get a pair of Yamaha NS 50M monitor retailed at US$340 each. But on the 26th Dec the price fell to just US$167 each. I quickly drove to Wrentham to grab a pair! It was a 1.5 hour traffic jam and for New England is super bad! Not to mention the terrible snow storms.

I wanted to drive to Natick on Saturday to search for the G Loomis N1382 11ft6 IGFA Noodle blank. But my ang mo colleagues told me why not go to “Bass Pro” in Foxboro and look for alternatives? The web site looks impressive, but showed a wrong GPS location. My trusted old GPS took me to someone’s luxury house. I later remembered my colleague told me it’s next to Gillette Stadium. So I used intuition and finally reached the fishing haven in New England. The actual GPS location is N 42 05.189 W 71 16.375.

The outside already looks like a mega store. USA is always having thing in luxury and abundance. But does it offer what I need? I saw the boat on offer, only US$2k, originally $4k!

Just at the entrance have many animals and actual wild site illustration. Wow fly fishing in action.

This is the impressive boat at the center of the fishing section. The reels are all on display on the counters. (aiyo, the price in Singapore is better)

Where is Par Ciao? This is the bird shooting fun site. Electronics sensors and animated brids only lah. Americans like to kill. I like it.

This is indeed a mega store. The fishing section is down stairs. I was at the hunting section.

Another view of the reel counters. Mainly Shimano, some Daiwa, and many American brands. I still stick to Shimano. This is the only brand that still has parts support. Sod the corrosion myth, all reels does corrode. Take care of it first lah.

They have all the fresh water fishes in the tank for educational purposes. In MA, anyone needs a fishing license to fish. The rangers are helpful and professional, and the authorities do stock fishes. Comparatively, our adminstration are like nut cases in ecological conservation. Anyway, what can they do right except blowing trumpets? If you trust them, get ready to get stuck on the Flyers and cannot pee or shit for six hours and wont tell you what happened.

Wish Ah Boy is here to look at the big cold tank. There are a lot of Ah Sheng swimming in there!

I like trains. Especially the mock ups.

Wow, they put the reels on the handles for you to try it out. Service is ok, not too bad. At least they responded equally to a Cheena Beng. In UK, maybe you have to expect a shitty face. Cannot blame the ang mo, a lot of Cheena Beng behave like shit anyway.

Any ISO net? No, they do not know what is ISO net or rod. It’s a Jip Poon Term. And they hate Jip Poon Kia.

Made in China, only US$50. Its better than the Thiel green noodle rod I had. Must try first lah.

Round 2 ! This time round no photos but lots of exciting videos on Men VS Fishes!! This is WAR !!!

4 person when to the GTs in hope of finally landing one GT.

My friend got his first hook up and landed it !! Wow !!

The starting part of the session was a fishing frenzy! The GTs were biting non stop.. but my reel drag is set too loose and misses alot of hook ups. You can feel the lure in the mouth of the GT and come out failing to set hook on a 8/0 hook size Zzz.

After tighting up the drag.. Game time ! First GT fish on !

Line breaks again !!!

Fight fish till pants almost drop off !! The GT are very smart.. When the fish is pumped near to the platform they always try to dive under it. The hard part is to keep pumping the fish and not let it dive under. But of course saying is easy doing it is totally different story on a 20lb rod trying to control a GT 12lb... I urge you guys out there not to wait any longer and try this pond ! You will not want to fish in pay pond anymore after you tried this.

And I did it !! Finally !! one GT 5-6kg landed !! The funny moment is while fighting half way my reel managed to loosen itself from the reel seat. Scared the hell out of me as for a moment I thought the reel handle is going to break. Totally no strength to tighten it back. Lucky my friend is there to save the day.

Now is my buddies turn to have their moment while I rest under the shelther trying to take a breather.

Looking forward to fish there again !!

Kempong Subang Fishing Pond

Recce this place a few weeks ago but dont have a time to go and try my luck in this place. This place is near Kempong Subang. Driving straight from the T3 Subang airport till you reach Maybank. At the junction turn left and go straight till you reach a T-junction with on your left is a Ba Ku Teh stall. Turn left and watch out for the above sign board.

This place have 2 pond. The salt water pond and the fresh water pond. RM34 for 3 hours of fishing for the salt water side. Heard this place only have SiaKap AKA Barramundi.

The recce looks good. 15mins there saw 3 hook up. All barramundi. This result makes me want to give this place a try. The only bad thing about this place is they dont sell bait. Or err they do sell baits but not on a regular bases. Anglers who want to give this pond a try please carry your own baits with you just in case.

This is the cashier. At the bottom of the cashier there is a pool where people put the fishes they caught and do not want to bring home. Before going back home they will put it that this pool. For other anglers to keep or for the fish to recover and put back into the pond? That I dont know.

The evening crowd is much better then the morning one. Morning there is about 5 anglers. Evening about 20 anglers are fishing. I myself a zero fight again Zzzz.. How to break this bloody cursed! Anyway only 2 hook ups on my 3hr session there. The result sucks big time.

This Saturday will be going back Singapore and try the GT pond again. Hopefully this time the CR for the GT pond will be better then before. Check back on my blog next week. Cheers

Pulau Pemanggil Fishing Trip

Okay, now before embarking on a trip like this for reasons only you can justify, first let's take into consideration the travelling time. Pulau Pemanggil sits 45kms east of Mersing, the take-off point to most islands off the Southern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. To get to Mersing itself takes 4½ hours by car or roughly 6hours by coach from KL (we shall use Kuala Lumpur as a point of reference) and from Mersing it takes another 4 1/2 hours (by traditional fishing boats) to paradise island . And of course, there is the waiting time to take into account - waiting for tidal changes, for boat, for coach, for tardy friends hitching a ride down with you. But then again, these are the little joys of travelling to far-off places for when you arrive, you know the tough journey has been all worth the effort - you have left the masses behind!

Major Craft’s Day’s Sakura 4 Piece Travel Rod. One of my must have now when I am on my travelling trips. It fits nicely into the luggage bag at only 57cm long. I got this rod because I saw one of my friend using it in a SG pay pond. Saw the bend on the rod when my friend caught a fish and told myself this is the rod. I need for my travelling. Go thru FishingKaki forum and request for a 2nd hand one and got it on the very same day of my request from a nice chap who sold the rod to me at SGD200. Its not used before and the condition was super.

Deas Aman Pond

This pond is a salt water pay pond in Deas Aman, Selangor.

LDP towards Sungei Buloh, you will have to pass a RM1.60 toll. Continue towards Sungei Buloh direction. On the way you may have to take a U-Turn just before Sierrama/Valencia flyover. After the U-Turn, you will see a Caltex petrol station on the left hand side. Turn into Desa Aman after the petrol station. You will notice the fishing pond on your right hand side after a sharp turning along the road.

This pond charges RM55 for 5hrs + 1 hr free. and RM3 to join the jackpot prize for the biggest barramundi caught in the week. Usually the prize fish is 5kg and above. Same in a malaysia forum that the guy caught a 9.6kg but fall short as the 1st prize go to a 14.9kg catch.

Below is during a annual cleaning up of the pond. It took them 1 month to clean up the pond and do the repairs. Can see that the drain away all the water and how deep the pond is. around 3-4 meters from the look of it here.

Bangkok 18th Oct 2008 Barramundi Fishing

18th Oct 2008 went to bangkok for barramundi fishing. This is a private pond near Bang Ba Kong. This is a barramundi catch and release pond. Ah Ton is our guide for the day. This is the 3rd time I am fishing with this guide and I am very happy with his service as the fishes is getting bigger and stronger each time I fish there.

My friend Alson who caught the most fishes that day.

Main reason for me to get this reel is because of its color and design. After much advise from my friends in Fishingkaki.com when down to Kepong tackle shop in KL Malaysia and got it for RM1200 which is around SGD500.

First time using this reel in my thailand barramundi trip scare the hell out of me as I never know how light the drag is when a 5kg barramundi takes the lure. Very fun and challaging reel to be used. Give the reel a real workout.

The side plate of concentric, drilled circles is breathtaking, don't worry about water getting into the reel from the holes. A plastic shield fastened to the backside of the plate to guard against entry of foreign elements.

Casting using this reel is like effortless even for a baitcasting effortless casting don't really sound possible. As many people who is new to baitcasting reel will be feared by those stories of bird nest. The aluminum cast control tension knob has a micro-click for fine tune adjustment.
